Class C Tickets

A class C ticket is a fine only offense that is typically handled in a municipal court. But in some instances repeated Class C convictions can be used to enhance someone into higher penalties. Furthermore, some Class C violations carry specific requirements.

Some of the more common Class C tickets include:

• Theft under $100
• Minor in Possession of Alcohol
• Minor in Consumption of Alcohol
• Public Intoxication
• Assault by Contact
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
• Traffic Violations

These are fine only offenses, however you can be taken to jail for these offenses. You also can get a warrant issued for failing to appear in court or failing to pay your fine.  Furthermore, many of these carry additional punishments if convicted. 

For instance, in alcohol related offenses the court will require community service, an alcohol awareness class, and potentially a driver’s license suspension. The number of community service hours and suspension increase for a second offense, and if convicted a 3rd time the court can sentence up to 180 days in jail. 

Theft under $100 is considered a crime of moral turpitude and can have lasting implications on someone’s life.  Theft convictions can also be used to enhance a Class C to a higher punishment range which includes jail time, potentially all the way up to 2 years in State Jail. 

Convictions for moving traffic violations may also lead to driver’s license suspensions and in some instances be enhanced to an offense which includes jail time.
